Why should I use OSMOBI instead of a regular template?

OSMOBI offers everything you can achieve with device detection and templates, but with a number of significant advantages:

  • OSMOBI is a ready-to-use, completely integrated solution for creating mobile sites
  • OSMOBI offers an optimization of your mobile site: file sizes are reduced, generally non-supported elements such as JavaScript are disabled, etc.
  • OSMOBI adapts the mobile site for optimal display on every device: content, images and other elements are rescaled to fit the screen, etc.
  • OSMOBI offers an easy interface for configuring the mobile website and editing the look-and-feel of the site as well as the content. It is much more easy than creating a proper theme and it offers more possibilities than using an existing theme such as moving elements, deleting elements, adding backgrounds, etc.
  • OSMOBI offers the possibility to add an iPhone look-and-feel for iPhone users without having to create a new template.

I have a free account. What happens when my mobile site has more than 150 pageviews

The OSMOBI free account allows a maximum of 150 pageviews or 100Mb per 24h. If at a certain point you have more than 120 pageviews or 75Mb, OSMOBI will automatically send you a mail to let you know. This should give you enough time to switch to the OSMOBI PREMIUM version, with limitless pageviews and 500Mb traffic per 24h included. When your site reaches 150 pageviews or 100Mb in the last 24h, the mobile site will be disabled for the time remaining of the 24h. Mobile users that visit your site will then be redirected to the normal desktop-site.

What is the difference between OSMOBI FREE and OSMOBI PREMIUM with regard to the URL I can use?

In the OSMOBI FREE version, your mobile site can only be made available under the URL of your desktop-site. When a mobile device reaches your URL, OSMOBI will detect this and redirect the mobile user to the mobile version. In the OSMOBI ADVANCED version, you can put your mobile site behind any URL you own. In this way, you can choose to enter a shorter URL (which is more user-friendly), a .mobi domain or a m.-URL.

What will happen with my FREE account when OSMOBI is no longer in beta? What does the beta mean?

FREE accounts will stay for free! OSMOBI is currently working fine for most websites. However, we are constantly improving the service, to make it the most optimal solution for all Drupal and Joomla! websites and to be able to offer more functionalities to everyone. All suggestions for improvement can be given via the ‘feedback’-button on www.osmobi.com. The distinction however between OSMOBI FREE and OSMOBI PREMIUM will not disappear. OSMOBI FREE will stay available as it is today.
